Welcome back !
I am so happy that we now can discuss topics in the Arts online, anytime ! Thanks for registering and for checking in periodically to comment, update, learn and share.
Here's today’s topic : Why do you think Women in the Arts are relegated to supportive roles, or roles in group settings, or are relegated to renegade roles, alone, out there somewhere, pioneering without much help from the arts community or from society ?
Do you think these are valid questions ?
Can you think of any women who have been marginalized thusly, and what were some of the results ? Suicide, loss of family, loss of job, mental breakdown, or the abandonment of the artistic pursuit ? Have you ever felt marginalized as a woman, especially as a woman artist ?

Let me know what you think.
All the best,

I think women in the Arts are relegated to supportive roles, or roles in group settings, or are relegated to renegade roles, alone, out there somewhere, pioneering without much help from the arts community or from society because they were always the ones behind the men and always did the secondary work. The men were always more important to society then women. They have different views of what needs to be done or not done. I believe these are valid questions.
Unfortunately, as women, we are still fighting this inferiority most men cast upon us. We know more male artists than those of females. Nonetheless, there are female artists who have gone beyond such labels, such as one of my favorites and inspiration - Mary Cassatt. American painter and printmaker, Cassatt was successful in her life because she was very determined, active, and most importantly, passionate about her art. So with Cassatt as a model, female artists can strive to become known in the art world - all it takes is a lot of self-confidence and perseverance.

I think women are not [viewed] equal to men at all in the art world. Women have been fighting for their place among men but we still are not there yet, though we have been getting closer. I think if a women now a days were to create a new art technique (for example) along with a man, the man would get most if not all the credit while the woman wouldn't exactly be recognized.
BTW, the female artist i mentioned in art class is Jenny Saville. I admire her because she is daring in her art i would say. Painting things that maybe others are to scared or find not good enough to paint. to me, her paintings seem real, like they aren't hiding anything in fear people will think of it as ugly.
i think that being an artist as a woman was hard because of how men thinks that they are powerful and how women don't have power to be on top.
But i think that being an artist dont have that because as long as you love doing what you are doing you can be an great artist even though there are some pains they go through from the past.
And being an Artist has no limit if you are a man or woman as long as the paper is painted by a person.
Great comments ! Kudos to you !!
