Art is so subjective

Welcome to day One of our new web log, Talking Arts, a contemporary focal group of students, artists and writers discussing the arts today.

topic : is there such thing as real art ? what's the difference between real art and fake art, or craft art or folk art ? why do Van Gogh's Sunflowers go for 100 million bucks, and my grannies wild flowers don't ?

who is determining all of this stuff anyway ?

what do you think about the art world and its hierarchy ?

is someone in charge ?

i believe that art is personal and when you show others your work you are letting them inside your head. you are willingly allowing them to get to know you. i am fond of abstract art, the reason being i find it very moving. i love being able to create something with no formal concept in mind. i like being in this class simply because, it has given me the chance to really understand in depth everything about art :)

I don't believe there's such thing as real art. And i believe that someone saying something is art and something else isn't is not fair. Art is supposed to be a way of expression and would therefore be seen as art to some people and not as art to others. Art is more in the eye of the beholder, but just because it doesnt seem like art to you that doesn't mean it isn't art. I think anything can be considered real art as long as it has a reason to exist and expresses something, something either everyone can relate to or something that expresses the artist in more ways than anything else ever could.
I dont think anyone can tell you that your art isn't good enough. It's your art afterall and you express yourself within it.

I believe that there is no such thing as "real" or "fake" art. Art is built upon anything and everything. The difference between craft and folk art is that craft is made by hand and uses amounts of imagination. Folk art is more based on culture, customs, and behavior. Van Gogh's painting goes more for that a grandmother's piece because he was recognized for certain characteristics and he worked hard to get to his position. The grandmother just has to make herself known and then she will have more chances. The people who determine this things are experts and have lots of experience, they have the ability to detect talent. I think the art world is a huge variety and it's never the same, there's always something new and different. No, there is no one in charge for creativity and imagination. Art has no limits.

I think there is such thing as real art. Fake art to me would be something that someone did not put their heart and soul to, they just did whatever they wanted and put it on a certain media.
so I think there is a difference between all these types of art.
Van Gogh's flowers can go for a 100million dollars, i guess, beacause people just have different expensive taste. Maybe it went to that price beacause the maker of it is a professional. The people that are determining this probably went through years of studying kinds of arts, so they have a big knowledge about the art world. I think the art world is very different than what people usually think. For example, splattered paint on a canvas can be thought of as brilliant, when others may think it is trash. I don't think someone's in charge, beacause many of these art experts have different views. A person doesn't control what they think about an art.

Real art makes you feel something inside. Fake art is just a image of some sort. Craft art is a mixture of many materials. Folk art tells you the history of the work of art.Van gogh's sunflowers go for a million, probably because he's well known for his work of art. I think we choice if it's good or not. I think the art world as become more developed.I don't know who's incharge.

i dont believe that there is a real art or fake art because arts itself is real but unless a person copies a real art that art becomes fake because the art is not orginally drawn by the artist. When we draw, we can draw the picture because your brain is telling you something look like this or that.
Anyways, art come from your mind and Michelangelo quoted that "The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection."
so when people look at the art its actually looking at what the artist says or thinks.....=D

The question "what is art?" is such a broad question especially in today's time. The modern world is contains so many art genres -abstract, realism, pop art, contemporary, sculpture, street scenes, fine art, and so forth. Such an array of expressing oneself thus creates a controversy regarding what actually is real art. It is difficult to find a concrete answer. For instance, with the medium being trash, one art critic would praise the artist's work while another art critic would reject and degrade his/her work. With so many perspectives going on, this controversy may perhaps never cease to end. Personally, the only solution is to look at a work and be open-minded and consider every aspect.

There is such thing as real art. Art is anything and could be anything you think of and create/make.The difference between real art and fake art is real art is made by real talent and passion but fake art are those that kind of basically pay there way to the top and "try" to be fancy and different, etc. I do not really care about the hierarchy of art because i believe everyone is an artist in their own special way. I believeno one is in charge. YOu are the one in charge with your own art work.

Some people today make art seem that it has to look a certain way but its not true art can come from a piece of music to a painting.

To me there is such thing as real art because whatever people do to express there feelings and themselves I think it really is real.

folk art is artistic works,or paintings, sculpture, and sometimes utensils. Sometimes artists use this as a mark or a high design.
craft art is just based on skill and what you can do with what you have but its also another form of art.

Van Gogh's is popular because he is more well know then other artist that are as good as him.

art is art. it's what you want it to be. no one has the right to take that away from you. the creator has the power to do whatever he/she wants. whether you have talent or not your art will be considered unique. yeah, you'll compare and see the truth. but despite the differences there are no certain catagories, everyone has a different perspective.
don't let people's words upset you, just be yourself and continue to express your talents through your works.

Van Gogh's Sunflowers went for 100 million because his talents had led him to success. his works were noticed and admired by the people.

..as for your grannies cookies,
good luck with that.
